Comp-Safari Summary

Those who have competed in a Comp Safari Off-road Race are well aware of the thrill you get when you  drive a Vehicle which is correctly prepared for the purpose of Speed/Safety. All of which are checked by an Official MSA Scrutineer prior to EVERY Race. Which you are then permitted to drive to its maximum within the course limitations.

You  compete against each Driver/Vehicle in your Class and to this end winning is the main goal, Which is not always as easy as it seems as I and several other  Drivers well know. We spend many hours preparing our Vehicles only to suffer a breakdown on the first or even the last lap, Which has happened to many competitors including me.

The Class you are given is decided by the size of engine and the type of suspension i.e.; Leaf or Coil sprung which means that while you are competing in the same event in say an Old Leafer Landy you are not in the same class as the Driver of a bespoke 5/7ltr V8 independent suspension Racer. And you stand every chance of a winning  your class, although it would be nice to win overall but that accolade usually goes to the more experienced drivers.

Starting is organised in an orderly fashion with each Vehicle going off the start line with about 1 minute interval between each. This part of the race is controlled by the Comp timing Van and is staffed voluntary usually by competitors wives without which we could not run the events and are grateful for their support.

Not to be forgotten are the Marshals who again give up their valuable time to support Motorsport in our case Comp-Safari Racing. Without which we most defiantly could not run such events as ours and again we are indebted to them.

Starting at the bigger Comp Safari events such as the BCCC is decided by a Grading system which requires you to do the runs in an allotted time or suffer a  max time as penalty.

The types of terrain we Race over varies considerably from flat fields to Woodland even Forests to disused Quarries with the norm being a good mixture of fields/wooded terrain where you need to drive with caution,  described  as the technical aspect of the course.

Spectators who attend are most welcome and get the opportunity to take some good action shots, If you are interested in seeing what we get up to visit YouTube and enter [744204] in the search engine box and it will take you to 60 of my uploads all Comp-safari racing, good viewing.

I have tried to outline Comp Safari Racing and a few of the Regulations, Hopefully you have enjoyed reading this and  maybe we will see you at one of the many events we have organised throughout the Midlands/Shropshire/Staffordshire/Worcestershire/Oxfordshire this Year....
