Challenge Event Summery

The object of the event is to drive around lost all-day trying to negotiating that especially difficult piece of ground that you (a) dare your mate (b) are dared (c) stop and look at what the crowd of onlookers are taking photos of, (d) try to get through and become the subject of said photos, or all of them! On MOC challenge days. The best 40 or so locations have already been located for you and marked with a piece of tape (occasionally a map is also supplied (usually blows out of window into puddle). A numbered pin punch tied to a handy tree (so you don’t loose it) is at each location which you can use to mark the card, attached to car (so you don’t loose it) and keep track of how many more pieces of interesting ground there are to conquer. There may be other special sections of ground that are taped off, which have a nice person with a camera stationed there and will time you on how long it takes you to (a) break all/ some of the tape, (b) rap it all around your transmission, (c) both, and then probably take a photo of your freshly adorned car for your viewing pleasure.
The event is usually for two like minded people (herein referred to as a Team) in the one 4x4 vehicle they can manage to bump start between them, waking the entire street up at 6 am in the process. Vehicles are classed on how many macho off-roadie things you can attach to your ride i.e., winch, full roof rack with lights, stickers, wheels (with those nice bolts around the rim) ect. The driver (usually the big one) has to have a licence(apparently Weetabix  still do them for six tokens ) and the team mate (the small one) are usually found arguing and yelling  unclear directions  (e.g. “STOP!!!WILL YOU STOP STILL!!!)  at each other from great distances all over the noise of a revving  ill silenced misfiring stuck 4x4. A speed limit of 15 mph covers all sights (Fall over slowly) and 5mph in pits (how and why? a broken car is supposed to sustain 5mph in the Pits eludes me?) All competitors are to traipse mud into the local boozer after the event (while waiting for the AA tow truck)to take them home.
